Basic  (A1, A2)

Basic grammar and oral practice for Portuguese beginners with no contact with Spanish or Italian.

By the end of this level the student will be able to introduce himself, talk about daily life subjects, do and accept invitations, ask for information and respond in proper manner, ask food, buy things, speak and write texts about daily life, converse with Brazilians, understand lyrics and small parcels of videos and movies, as well as being able to dominate the basic beginner’s Portuguese grammar.

Basic Course for Hispanic Speakers

Portuguese Teacher with his students

Basic grammar in Portuguese with focus on the main differences between Portuguese and Spanish in terms of basic verbs in the present and past tenses, correction of problems with the use of “portunhol”, as well as presenting a wide range of vocabulary, preparing the student for the intermediary group. This group is indicated for Italian speakers.

By the end of this level the student will be able to communicate with much more linguistic property, differentiate the Portuguese language from Spanish/Italian, ask and answer questions about basic subjects, make and receive invitations, use the present and past tenses properly, comprehend, speak and write about daily life texts, conversations, music and parcels of movies as well as getting to know about literature, traditions and the Brazilian Culture.

Intermediary (B1, B2)

Intermediary grammar and oral practice for students that have concluded the Basic Level or the Basic Level for Hispanic Speakers. Also indicated for students who already possess some knowledge of the language, verified on the leveling test.

After this course is done the student will be able to make descriptions, expose facts in the present, past and future tenses, ask and answer questions adequately, make good use of connectives in speech, correctly adequate a discourse (formal x informal), recognize and comprehend some Brazilian proverbs, make proper use of a number of textual genres (write notes, e-mails, letters, etc.), hold a broader knowledge on music, culture, traditions and Brazilian customs, correctly use verbs in the present, past and future tenses of the indicative, properly use the composed tenses of the indicative, be capable of writing and comprehending texts, dialogues, music and movies.

Advanced (C1, C2)

Advanced grammar and oral practice for students that have finished the Intermediary Level or that already possess a good understanding of oral and written Portuguese, verified on the leveling test.

By the end of this course the student will feel comfortable exposing facts in the present, past and future tenses utilizing the indicative and subjective modes, as well as correctly using the composed tenses, making good use of connectives (conjunctions, prepositions), expressing doubts, desires and/or preferences, communicating orally in order to resolve common situations/problems, modulating discourses correctly (formal x informal, direct x indirect), comprehending an extended quantity of expressions and vocabulary utilized in Brazil, making good use of proverbs and idiomatic expressions in speech; reading, comprehending and producing different types of texts (dialogues, literary texts, music, movies), expressing opinions on multiple subjects while also gaining a broader knowledge and understanding of Brazilian culture, literature, traditions and customs.
